I remember an older brother telling me that the first half of the people saying "peace and security" (you remember... the catch phrase that starts armageddon) was the popular fad that the hippies had of saying peace all the time... The even had a hand gesture that had it's origins in Babylonian rituals... We just to wait for them to start saying security as a greeting and them "BLAMMOOOO!!! Game-over!"
Another young (super-dork) brother at the same hall was adamant the the Jimi Hendrix song said, "You better read your watchtower"
Oh yeah, almost forgot... Led Zepplin's line about "there's a lady who know's" (Stairway to Heaven) was about one of the annointed sisters.... and the title "houses of the holy"... Kingdom Halls, of course...
Seems like I remember a lot of Led Zepplin referrences but maybe that's better saved for another post.
Sorry for getting a little off-topic... your question just brought back a bunch of memories.

Sign of the Times/the End is Near!!!!!!!!!!
by mama1119 inmy dad told me a story today about a dub he works with.
my dad is a huge spots fan, and he was talking to this dub about the incident a couple years ago when some baseball player wrote a book about all the steroid use in sports...just normal conversation...and this dub shook his head and said..."just goes to show you the end is near, its a sign of the end of system of things".
where in the bible did it list baseball players steroid use as a sign of the end???

How do I explain my Jehovah's Witness past to a potential mate?
by The wanderer in<!-- .style1 {font-family: arial, sans-serif} .style2 {font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; } .style4 {font-family: arial, sans-serif; color: #89490c; } .style5 {font-family: arial, sans-serif; color: #848a2a; } .style7 {font-family: arial, sans-serif; color: #89490c; font-size: 14px; } .style8 {font-size: 14px} --> explaining my jehovah's witness past to a potential mate all things considered, this is the one thing that bothers me tremendously.. so much so, that it has kept me out of the dating scene let alone to be.
properly wed. .

Hi Wanderer,
I feel your pain... but Outlaw makes a good point, Nobody gives a s###.
If you'd like someone who does give a s###, find a nice ex-dub girl.
As a happily married man to a real princess (that was never a Dub) it is possible. The nicest surprise is that even though she never accepted the authority of the FDS, she still LOVES Jehovah with her whole heart and lives her life according to the principles and morals that Jesus and the Apostles outlined for us.
If you do start a relationship, perhaps the best way to convey who you are and where you've been is to take a que from Dale Carnegie and place her in a first person position. Maybe some analogy like:
Have you ever been in a hurry, driving, trying to get somewhere but you didn't exactly know where it was or how to get there? Have you ever had someone who "acted" like they knew where that place was give you bad direction and send you so far out of the way that you became completely lost?
Basically, your past put you in the category of someone who has been in an abusive/controlling relationship... I think many women are very sympathetic to this and providing that you have regained your independence and objectivety (basically a better man from your experience) and most importantly let her know that you are never going to fall for something like that again, I think she could see you as an ideal partner.
Just be prepared for having a Christmas tree in your living room! And stock up on puppies for all the sacrifices! -

Katrina Relief Quickbuilds
by roflcopter inso i had a jw friend stay at my house the past few days after getting back from doing a couple months of work in new orleans on quickbuilds.
he told me all about whats going on there, etc.
but one thing really ticked me off, and its amazing the money the wts is making offa this.. from what he told me is the wts is quickbuilding new homes for all the jw's who lost their homes in the hurricane and collecting the insurance payments that the homeowners recieve.

Good points Ocsfr,
I think it's fair to acknowledge the gifts that anyone gives and no doubt, there are some brothers with a great deal of compassion and generosity.... The point that offends me is the self-promoting, one-sided, attitude that some possess. I was absolutely saturated with that sort of egotisticle crap my whole life.
It only makes matters worse that the same attitudes seem to be happening today and that the typcal Dub is so willing to be critical of any/all other groups.... even we they know nothing about them. At the risk of copying their behaviour, I'd love to compare the benevolency of several churches in this area up against the local KH's. It's just one more example of some Dub regurgitating the false info that he heard from some other narrow minded twit.
Along the same lines, I can't beleive how long I avoided corporate worship with any group that wasn't FDS approved for fear of the homosexual/pedofile/pastor leading self-mutilation before the ritual puppy sacrifices to their dark lord! No matter how young I was, I can't beleive that I ever bought in to any of this crap... It's embarrasing and humbling! -

The coolest thing about recovery?
by gordon d inyeah!!!
i recently completed the final 7th stage of my recovery journey... .
but guess what???

Yeah!!! I recently completed the final 7th stage of my recovery journey...
But guess what??? With this particular group of a**holes you get to go right back to steps 3 and 4 and stay there as long as you like!
Or... at least as long as they keep doing what they keep doing.
Some specialist say that these are the typical stages of emotional recovery:
1 Confusion
2 Denial
3 Anger
4 Depression
5 Testing
6 Acceptance
7 Adjustment
If you accept these as applying to you, what level are you at?
